President

Sajjad Versi (BSc Eng, C Eng, MIET) was born and grew up in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and was elected the President of HARDA on the resignation of Dr Mohamud Sheikh. Sajjad migrated to Australia in 1983. He is a professional Electrical Engineer and Project Management consultant with extensive national and international experience. He was a member of Round Table (Dar es Salaam), Lions Club (Five Dock), Apex (St George), and has been involved with a children’s workplace charity and other social programs in Australia. Sajjad was previously the Executive Director of HARDA.

Carmel Clarke Carmel Clarke

Carmel is a key member of the Secretariat (Community Relations) and HARDA’s longest serving volunteer. She has extensive social welfare and community service experience. She is also the Personal Assistant, on a volunteer basis, to Phil Glendinning, Director of the Edmund Rice Centre and President of the Refugee Council of Australia.

Michael is a Franco Australian who has worked for many years for large organisations in both the commercial and Government sectors. Prior to retirement he acted as a Project Leader for a number of large financial and risk management projects.
Ahmed Mohamed Exec Dir HARDA Ahmed Mohamed, MBA

Having migrated to Australia in the late 1980s, Ahmed Mohamed comes with a wealth of experience and skills accumulated over 30 years of humanitarian work and community service especially for African communities in Australia. He volunteers for various organisations especially the Australian Somali Community Association of NSW. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and MBA from Adelaide University and is currently an Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing consultant for the remittance industry. He has also worked for multinational organisations such as the United Nations and various other agencies.
Mohammed Omar Mohammed Omar, B.A., M.Ed

Mohammed came to Australia from Somalia as an eight year old child. Now at the age of thirty he has a BA and a Master’s Degree in Education and is a high school teacher with the NSW Department of Education. He was the Cultural & Anti-Racism Officer with the University of Western Sydney Students’ Association (2005-2006).

Mohammed started HARDA’s youth arm, Horn of Africa Youth Agency of Australia and was its inaurgural  Chairman. Mohammed was also president of HARDA in 2012.

Michael Power Michael Power

Michael is a filmmaker who has produced a number of short documentaries for HARDA like New Land New Life. He has a BA in Government and Public Administration and Australian Literature from the University of Sydney, is a member of the Directors Guild of Australia and has worked in feature films, documentaries and TV drama in Australia, Italy and the UK.

Anna Dimo was born in Wau, South Sudan in 1964 and graduated as teacher in 1983. She married in 1985 and moved to Khartoum because of the war. Anna was the Principal of a school for refugees in Khartoum. When it became unsafe, she escaped to Alexandria, Egypt, where she was a refugee for 10 years. In Egypt, Anna volunteered as the Sacramental Coordinator for Refugees with the Catholic Church. Anna applied to the UNHCR for refugee status and, in 2000, arrived in Sydney with eight children, five of her own. From 2003 to 2009, she was a Teacher’s Aide supporting Sudanese children in Catholic schools. Since 2009, Anna has been the Manager of the St. Bakhita Centre.

Cindy worked in the finance industry, most recently in Marketing and as a Futures Trader at Brandywine Asset Management in the US and prior to that on the Futures desk and in the Economics Division of Macquarie Bank in Sydney. Cindy has been an active volunteer for many years and has served as: Union County Chairperson for the Fresh Air Fund (NYC, USA); Friend of NJ SEEDS (NJ, USA); Volunteer Coordinator for Worldwide Orphans Foundation (NJ/NYC); as well as class parent and year coordinator at her children’s schools. She is currently a volunteer at the St Bakhita Centre as well as HARDA.

Abrar Ahmad is a youth worker at a crisis accommodation centre. He has a bachelor of Social Science from the University of Western Sydney.
