About Us

HARDA –  the Horn of Africa Relief and Development Agency  –  is a not-for-profit community charity supporting migrants and refugees from the Horn of Africa countries (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda).

Our work focuses on providing support and services that help individuals, families and communities settle into local Australian life. We aim to foster strong and lasting engagement between HARDA the communities we work in, while ensuring that migrants and refugees from the Horn of Africa become active and engaged members of their local communities.

Our projects aim to help individuals integrate into Australian life and develop ties with their communities. We encourage a central point for community groups and leaders to share the experiences of their communities and come together with a single voice for the benefit the people they represent.

As well as the work we do in Australia with migrant and refugee communities, HARDA undertakes life changing relief and support projects in the Horn of Africa countries. These projects aim to improve the lives and well-being of the people living in communities in these counties and helps the diaspora of those communities to feel they are giving back to their home countries.

HARDA is volunteer based and we rely on the generosity of communities and supporters as well as individual grants and donations in order to deliver these much needed projects. To find out how you can support the work that HARDA does, see here.

While HARDA is a small charity with limited resources, we aim to partner with other organisations and groups to maximise our reach and to facilitate the greatest possible impact on the communities we serve.

Mission

HARDA’s mission is to support migrants and refugees from the Horn of Africa as they settle into their new lives in Australia. We aim to provide a link to the local communities and to provide individuals and families with the tools they need to become successful and engaged members of their new communities.

Vision

HARDA’s vision is an interconnected and accessible range of services that ensures that migrants and refugees from Horn of Africa countries have access to the tools and support they need to integrate and settle successfully into their new communities. We aim to achieve this by bringing together community groups and leaders to both coordinate services and present a strong united voice to local, state and federal government.
